Student Equity Inventory

Student Equity Inventory Findings 2009

HWDSB is committed to student equity. To ensure that every student reaches his/her full potential, it is important that schools provide relevant and supportive programming that meets the needs of learners from diverse communities. To determine the degree to which students perceive their school environments to be welcoming and inclusive for all, a Student Equity Inventory was administered in spring 2009. This survey provides opportunity for student voice, and allows the board to consider areas of strength and need related to issues of equity.

Our Sincere Appreciation

Thank you to our students for their participation in the Student Equity Inventory. In addition, we wish to thank the staff and community for their support and many contributions that made the inventory possible.

Student Equity Inventory

HWDSB is committed to student equity. To ensure that every student reaches his or her full potential, it is important to hear from students about their school experiences in relation to their diverse characteristics so that school-level programming for students from our many communities can be enhanced.

The Student Equity Inventory is asking students about their perceived academic progress, school climate, aspirations, and experiences with discrimination. It also asks for information about their diverse characteristics (culture, language, faith, exceptionalities, sexual orientation). With parent consent, every secondary school student in grade 10 and 11 will be invited to participate.

Survey participation is voluntary and anonymous

The Student Equity Inventory will be administered between May and June, 2009. In order to participate, parents must provide active and written consent. Students with consent may choose whether or not they want to participate. They may skip items or withdraw at any time.

Once all schools have completed the Student Equity Inventory, E-BEST, the board’s research department, will prepare individual school reports and an overall district summary.
