As an employee what can I gain from this experience?
Performance appraisals are an opportunity to have candid discussions, which may include expectations, job performance, recognition of excellence as well as areas of growth.
Frequency
Depending on the employee group, EPAS will be completed every 3–5 years. Also, in collaboration with supervisors/managers, employees will develop a continuous improvement plan at the time of the performance appraisal that outlines strategies for professional growth and development. The continuous improvement plan will be reviewed on an annual basis. HWDSB strives to provide the highest quality of education possible to our students, to do that, we need to promote continuous improvement and make it possible for staff to do so.
How EPAS Works
Before a performance appraisal is conducted, each supervisor/manager will meet with the employee and describe the process details. This gives employees a chance to consider their career objectives as well as suggestions for professional growth and development. During the meeting, the supervisor/manager will talk about performance standards and review all the relevant goals (system, school or department) that relate to the employee. An employee’s individual performance will be evaluated and assistance provided for growth. At this point, employees have the opportunity to discuss their strengths and areas for growth. The supervisor and employee will collaborate to develop a continuous improvement plan to reflect job and career goals. After the meeting, the supervisor will store the document, monitor performance and help the employee implement the continuous improvement plan.
