The Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School Student Services Department provides a broad range of programs and services for students. Counsellors assist students with program planning as well as academic and personal issues. Information is also provided to assist student transitions from elementary school to secondary school, and to get to college, university or the workplace.

In addition, a Social Worker, Public Health Nurse, Aboriginal Youth Workers, Educational Assistants. Alternatives for Youth Program, Change Your Future Program and Pathways Program are available to help with more serious concerns. To access these additional student supports, students and parents should first speak with a counsellor who will facilitate a referral.

Counsellors are assigned by alphabet and appointments may be arranged in the Guidance Office. Parents/Guardian are welcome to make inquiries. If you wish to see a counsellor, please follow the instructions below:

1. Write your name on an appointment slip for the counsellor assigned to you. There is an appointment book available and you can select an appointment that is convenient for you.

2. Keep the appointment slip with you and show it to your subject teacher. After your meeting with your counsellor, ensure that this slip is completed and initialled by the counsellor, showing the time when the meeting ended. You will need this to be re-admitted to class. Parents who wish to see a counsellor are asked to call 905-528-8363 ext. 224 to arrange an appointment. The guidance office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
