Dance-a-thon Success
The School Council recently held the annual Dance-athon. If you have never been along on the day, they are a lot of fun. The younger ones dance like no one is watching and the older kids often have some classy moves. It’s a great social event where friendships are furthered and fun snacks are had. It was also a fund raiser, with the goal of installing a second hydration station (this time on the upper floor).  The community raised over $3.5k which appears at this stage to be enough to meet that goal. Parent and student volunteers, teachers, office staff and caretakers all worked hard together to make the event happen. Our thanks to all of you.
We would also like to express our appreciation to local businesses that contributed prizes for the event: Beanermunky Chocolate, Pita Pit (Dundas), Subway (Dundas), Yogurty’s Froyo (1309 Main Street), Fortinos (1579 Main Street), Metro (University Plaza) and the Holland Park Garden Gallery.
Free Child Minding at School Council Meetings
As of our February meeting, free child minding will be available at all SWO School Council meetings. We hire HWDSB accredited early childhood educators. As the ratio of staff to children is 1:5, if you would like to make use of the service to attend a meeting, please let the council chair (see below) or the principal ([email protected]) know a week in advance so that the correct number of DECEs can be arranged. The next meeting is Wednesday, April 11 from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm.
Funding Provided for the Robotics Club
The council approved a request from the members of the SWO Robotics Club for $270 to support their purchase of the special surface required to compete in the board’s robotics competition. We hope they train hard and do well
Movie Night Planning Underway
A family movie night is being planned for late April. This event will be open to all SWO families, though the timing and choice of film are intended to be of special interest to families with younger (JK-5) children. If you are interested in assisting with the event, please contact Mathew Gibson.
