News from Sir William Osler School Council

The Sir William Osler school council met on Wednesday October 5 at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons. Thank you to everyone who attended the meeting. Ms. Neale, Principal  and Mme. Bass, Teacher Liaison also joined our meeting.sc-news

Highlights from this meeting were:

The elected executive positions for 2016-2017 are:
Co-Chairs – Phil Moruzi & Dara Coulter
Vice Chair – Matty Gibson
Secretary – Sajah Stiller
Treasurer – Katherine Spencer
PAC Chair – Jane Nash

Parent Activity Committee

Jane Nash provided a wonderful overview of the responsibilities of the PAC and introduced a few ideas; SPC cards, Pita Pit and an upcoming movie night before Christmas.

Principal and Teachers’ Report (presented by Ms. Neale)

Communications: Website, Synervoice, Instagram, Twitter, Announcement Feed on website.  Staff list on our website with e-mails, blogs, phone extensions.  Parents / Caregivers asked to subscribe to website.  Once subscribed to the SWO website, links to news posts are delivered to e-mails by 6:00 pm.

Annual Fundraising Plan
Submit to board October 31, 2016

Use of funds should be aligned with the School Improvement Plan

While this plan is created at the start of the school year, this does not prevent schools from holding fundraising activities to respond to unforeseen events. Examples include: raising funds for Red Cross disaster response, raising funds to send a team to an athletics tournament based on in-year performance, raising funds for other charitable causes.

Halloween
Gr. 6, 7 & 8 – Dance $2 admission, $2 hot dogs for sale (start cooking second nutrition break- first come first serve) Options of: no charge movie room & no charge games room.  Primary & Junior Parade: Parents to be in the gym by 9:45 am lined up along the walls and the upper grades to be in the hall by 10:00 am. Parade begins at 9:30 am and begin with kindergarten and parade down the primary halls to pick up the primary classes.

Michelangelo Events and Conference Centre

This is a night where families and students in Grades 7-12 can learn more about the wide range of high school programs and services available in HWDSB and plan their high school years.

Next meeting:  Wednesday November 16, 2016 at 6:30 pm in the Learning Commons.
All parents and caregivers are welcome to attend.
