Promoting Positive Student Behaviour
Laurier Expectations
The Code of Conduct outlines what is expected behaviour in a school and what happens when someone does not behave acceptably. Students, staff and parents can expect to be treated with respect and fairness; all are expected to follow the Code of Conduct. Progressive Discipline may be applied when behaviours do not meet these standards.
Students
Students demonstrate respect and responsibility when they:
- show you are responsible by using your agenda every day;
- come to school every day ready to work;
- take pride in yourself and do your best work;
- respect the property of others and your school work;
- respect others’ right to learn;
- always be fair, kind and polite;
- ask for help when it is needed;
- look at and listen to the person who is speaking, without interrupting;
- stop, think, and make a good choice.
YOU are responsible for what YOU say and do.
Teachers
Teachers and school staff will hold everyone to the highest standard of respectful/responsible behaviour by:
- helping students work to their full potential and self-worth;
- empowering students to be leaders in class, school and the community
- communicating regularly and meaningfully to parents;
- maintaining consistent standards of behaviour for all students;
- demonstrating respect for all members of the school community
Parents
Parents support a safe and respectful learning environment when they:
- show an active interest in their child’s school work and progress;
- communicate regularly with the school in a respectful manner;
- help their child be neat, appropriately dressed and prepared for school including packing a nutritious lunch/snack;
- ensure that their child attends school regularly and on time;
- promptly report to the school their child’s absence or late arrival;
- become familiar with the Code of Conduct, school expectations and “I Will” commitment statements; encourage and assist their child in following rules of behaviour, and assist school staff in dealing with disciplinary issues involving their child.
