Transportation Information

Transporation InformationHWDSB provides transportation to approximately 16,000 students of the total 55,000 students who attend our schools. With so many of our students riding the bus or taking other modes of transportation, the safety and conduct of students are of paramount importance.

The modes of transportation employed by HWDSB may be any of the following based on availability and feasibility: Contracted school bus, municipal public transit, and taxi.

In early 2008, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board and Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board reached an agreement that will result in shared transportation services for 12,000 bussed students from the Catholic and 15,000 from the Public school systems. The partnership was formed after months of deliberations between the two boards.

The objectives of the consortium are to build capacity to deliver safe, effective and efficient student transportation services and to achieve equity in funding allocations and reduce the administrative burden of delivering transportation, changes which the Ministry felt would allow school boards to focus more time and attention on student learning and achievement.
