OUR SCHOOL PLAN - BACK TO THE TOP
CURRICULUM FOCUS
- The Curriculum focus for Queen’s Rangers in 2009-2010 is on ‘Frequent Monitoring of Student Progress’. Staff are participating in Learning Community Days and Professional Activity Days to develop a deeper understanding of a variety of Assessment techniques to provide to students and parents useful information that will allow students to progress to their full potential.
- The Junior staff have analyzed the school’s Grade Six EQAO data and determined focus areas in spelling and grammar assessment in the English Writing curriculum. As well, the Junior division will focus on responding to questions and writing activities that require relfection through individual written activities and conferencing. In Mathematics, problem solving techniques that include the use of pictures, numbers and words will be a focus. As well, manipulatives will be used frequently, especially in the areas of Geometry and Measurement.
- The Primary staff analyzed our Grade Three EQAO data and determined that the focus in Mathematics will be on extending Mathematics vocabulary, reasoning, estimation and understanding mathematical relationships using Problem Solving and Problems of the Week. Ideas from the Guide to Effective Instruction in Mathematics will be used to extend knowledge and skills. In English, the focus will be on reading comprehension through balanced literacy activities and visual organizers. Increasing writing output by breaking writer’s block will also be addressed through timed-writing, ‘Think-Pair-Share-‘ or the use of pictures.

ENVIRONMENT FOCUS
- The Environmental focus for the year is the implementation of the Classwide Social Skills programme.
- Monthly assemblies are head to focus on a character trait that emphasize the three main goals of the school: “Respect for self; Respect for others; Respect for Property”. Monthly "Hurray for You" awards are presented to students who exemplify the goals and monthly virtues of the school.
