Accommodation Review Committees (ARC) Process

Beginning in March 2011, Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) will begin holding Elementary Accommodation Review Committee (ARC) meetings. Schools will be looked at in groups in order to develop recommendations to trustees that make the best use of location, space and programming.

Public consultation is at the heart of the accommodation review process. A minimum of four public meetings will be held by each of the committees. In addition, there will be a number of working meetings.

The goal is to engage a wide range of school and community groups to participate in the consultation in order to make the recommendations to trustees. Committee members include principals, teachers, parents, students and community members.

The Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) and HWDSB are looking for interested individuals to sit on one of the Accommodation Review Committees. The two committees are structured on the basis of location, space and program placement.

Who qualifies to sit on an ARC committee?

Community members must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Do not live or work in the ARC area under review
  • Are not directly associated with any educational facilities within the ARC area
  • Public school supporter
  • May not already be a voting member on any other Accommodation Review Committee
  • Available to attend eight (8) evening meetings between March and November 2011. Meeting dates are available on the Board website.

Students must fulfill the following criteria:

  • Must presently be in Grade 7 in an HWDSB school
  • Students cannot sit on the ARC committee that includes their school
  • Students must be able to attend eight (8) evening meetings between March and November 2011. Meeting dates are available on the Board website.
  • Parent must be willing to sign off on the application and provide transportation to and from the meetings
