Grade Nine Courses:

PPL1O1 Healthy Active Living Education, Grade 9, Open

The students will participate in a wide variety of sports in the gym and outside on the fields. The healthy active living focus of this course will present the value of activity as a life long necessity. Three health units are included in the curriculum: personal safety and injury prevention, substance use and abuse, and healthy growth and sexuality.

PAR1O1: Healthy Living and Rhythm and Movement Activities, Mindfulness

This course will focus on a variety of individual and small group activities that promote mindfulness, stress and anxiety management, suppleness, and strength of body & mind. Such activities will include but are not limited to regular yoga practice, mindfulness activities, and breath-centered movements. Students will also be given opportunities to network with community resources supporting these practices through guest instructors and class trips, and as such, a fee may be applied.

Grade Ten Courses:

PPL2O1 Healthy Active Living Education, Grade 10, Open

The students will participate in a wide variety of sports in the gym and outside on the fields. The healthy active living focus of this course will present the value of activity as a life long necessity. Three health units are included in the curriculum: personal safety and injury prevention, substance use and abuse, and healthy growth and sexuality.

PAF2O1 Personal and Fitness Activities, Grade 10, Open

This is a fitness focus course which will introduce the students to various fitness programs. The course will be taught in the weight room and the gym.
(GIRLS – The culminating activity is a community 5k race.)

Prerequisite: PPL1O1 recommended
Course Fee and Additional Requirements: Offered to female students only. $30.00 fee

PAL2O1B Large Group Activity Basketball Focus, Grade 10, Open

This is a focus course on basketball. Only students who are serious about improving their basketball game should take this course. No other sports or activities will be covered during the semester.

Prerequisite: PPL1O1 recommended

PAL2O1V Large Group Activity Volleyball Focus, Grade 10, Open

This is a focus course on Volleyball. Only students who are serious about improving their volleyball game should take this course. No other sports or activities will be covered during the semester.

Prerequisite: PPL1O1 recommended

PPL2O1 Healthy Active Living Education, Grade 10, Open

This is a more traditional physical education class with regular sports and activities in the gym and on the fields.

Grade Eleven Courses:

PAF3O1 Personal and Fitness Activities, Grade 11, Open

This course is taught in the weight room. This course focuses on the development of a healthy lifestyle and participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that have the potential to engage students’ interest throughout their lives.
(GIRLS – The culminating activity is a community 5k race.)

Course Fee and Additional Requirements: $30.00 course fee

PPL3O1  Healthy Active Living Education, Grade 11, Open

The students will participate in a wide variety of sports in the gym and outside on the fields. The healthy active living focus of this course will present the value of activity as a life long necessity. Three health units are included in the curriculum: personal safety and injury prevention, substance use and abuse, and healthy growth and sexuality.

PAL3O1 Large Group Activities, Grade 11, Open

Traditional sports and activities in the gym and outdoor fields.

Prerequisite: None

PAL3O1BM Large Group Activity Basketball Focus, Grade 11, Open

This is a focus course on basketball offered for males. Students serious about improving their basketball skills in a team focus setting should consider selecting this course.

Prerequisite: PAL2O1B is highly recommended

Grade Twelve Courses:

PAF4O1 Personal and Fitness Activities, Grade 12, Open

This course is taught in the weight room. This course focuses on the development of a personalized approach to healthy active living through participation in a variety of activities that have the potential to engage students’ interest throughout their lives.
(GIRLS – The culminating activity is a community 5k race.)

PPL4O1 Healthy Active Living Education, Grade 12, Open

The students will participate in a wide variety of sports in the gym and outside on the fields. The healthy active living focus of this course will present the value of activity as a life long necessity. PAI4O1 Individual and Small Group Activities, Grade 12, Open

Students will experience a number of leisure activities outside the school including curling, golf, billiards and bowling.

Course Fee and Additional Requirements: $60.00 fee

PAL4O1B Large Group Activity Basketball Focus, Grade 12, Open

A focus course on basketball. Students serious about improving their basketball skills in a team focus setting should consider selecting this course.
Prerequisite: PAL3O1B is highly recommended

PLF4M1 Recreation and Fitness Leadership, Grade 12, (Co-ed)

This course focuses on the development of leadership and coordination skills related to recreational activities. Students will acquire the knowledge and skills required to plan, organise, and implement recreational events. They will learn how to promote the value of physical fitness, personal well-being, and personal safety to others through mentoring. This course will prepare students for college programs in recreational, leisure, and fitness leadership.

Prerequisite: Any Grade 11 or 12 Open course in Health and Physical Education
Course Fee and Additional Requirements: Students must submit a leadership course application with their option sheet if they wish to take this course. Application sheets can be picked up in the Guidance or Phys. Ed. Offices.

PSK4U – Introductory Kinesiology, Grade 12, University (Co-ed)

“This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development.  Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sport, and the physiological, psychological, and social factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity and sport.  The course prepares students for university programs in physical education and health, kinesiology, health sciences, health studies, recreation, and sport administration.”.
