On Wednesday, November 22nd at Dalewood, Ron Lancaster (Senior Lecturer at the Centre for Science, Mathematics, & Technology Education at OISE) will lead two events that connect math, art, and learning:
1) A Math Trail in the afternoon (3:00 to 4:00 pm ) through the neighbourhood near the school to show us math that surrounds us everyday, and
2) An evening session (7:00 to 8:30 pm) entitled “Mathematical moments for parents and their children: Viewing the world through a mathematical pair of glasses, enjoying puzzles & games, and novels & movies”. This session will feature discussion and activities for parents and children.
The emphasis in these events will be on strategies that parents can use with their children to see the opportunities for math, the usefulness of math, and even *gasp* the fun and pleasure in math…with a positive attitude and point of view regardless of mathematical ability.
More information on times and locations is available in the attached flyer. Children are welcome – the activities are best suited for children in grades 6 to 8.
The event is free thanks to the grant funding we received from the Ministry of Education Parent Reaching Out (PRO) Grant.
Please plan on joining Dalewood for these exciting events!!
