December Newsletter

Student Council Update:  Our student leaders continue to be as busy as Santa’s Elves.  Our Winter Spirit Week was a big hit with many students participating in all the events.  Thank you to the community for supporting the Children’s Fund by donating toys for the Toy Drive.  The week finished off with Snowgram Deliveries, PJ Day, a festive sing-a-long and an Intermediate Dance.

Communication:  To continue to improve our communication with our community, we are really relying on the school website, online calendar and sign board on Jessica Street to keep parents aware of upcoming events at Ray Lewis.  Please be sure to subscribe to our website so you get updates when we post items.  As well, we recently added our Morning Announcements to the website which will include our daily announcements.  This is in the preliminary stages as we get used to the new technology.  Finally, our school sign was broken for a couple of weeks but is now up and running again!

School Council:  Wishing all our families a wonderful holiday and a very Merry Christmas!!  There was no meeting in December, but we will meet again in January!  Hope to see you then.  Thank you to everyone for their support with the Poinsettia Fundraiser!  Results will be communicated at our next Council Meeting.

Bussing:  Our bus situation has certainly improved over the last little while, but there are still delays happening regularly.  Subscribe to HWSTS to get Late Bus Notifications.

Christmas Message:  On behalf of the Staff of Ray Lewis School, wishing all of our families a safe and relaxing holiday.  See you next year!

Twas the day before winter break and we’re all here together
Nothing could dampen our spirits, not even this weather
We sang some festive songs and recognized our sports teams
And started to think about what is in store for 2019.

Can you believe the time has flown so fast?
And four months of school have already passed!
So much has happened at school in that short time
I will try to capture a few of the highlights in this little rhyme

So many of you have taken part in Winter Spirit Week
It helped make the last few days of school not seem so bleak
Thank you to Student Council for all that you do,
With so many things happening, you are such a busy crew!

New games were painted this fall on the hard top
When the recess bell goes the fun is so hard to stop
Do you remember when Drumfit came to our school for a day?
Who knew drum sticks and yoga balls could be used that way?

Our sports teams have once again excelled in every sport
And we’ve shown great sportsmanship our coaches report
Ms. Janssens and her band worked hard to perfect their score
They left the audience at the concert wanting some more

Floor Hockey season has started up once again
Because Mr. Foutris is such a big Leafs fan
Did you know he instituted a new rule this year
To keep Mr. Moore from scoring so many goals, so we hear

We have done so much this year to also give back
We collected enough toys to fill Santa’s sack
The toys were all donated to the local Children’s Fund
To make sure there is a toy under the tree for everyone

“Now Vacca! now, Mann! now, Inglis and Bibby!
On, Coulis On, Sierdsma! on Fiddes and Massie!
To the top of the stairs! to the top of the hall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

On behalf of the staff of RLES
Merry Christmas to you and all of the best
Have a safe holiday, we say with great cheer!
Enjoy this last day and we’ll see you next year!
