October News

October was a busy month at Ray Lewis School!

Our Milk and Pizza programs began (watch for monthly order forms to come home so you don’t miss out!).

Our Cross Country teams recently competed and represented our school proudly.  Congratulations to the Grade 6 & 7 Boys and Grade 7 Girls teams for taking home the championships for their respective divisions!

Our Terry Fox Fundraiser was a great success.  Thank you for everyone for your participation in helping keep Terry’s Marathon of Hope alive!  We raised just over $900!  Well done!!

The Social Justice Committee recently launched our annual Food Drive to help support those in need.  We collected over 2000 food items.  Our Staff participated in a 10 Can Challenge to raise awareness to the student body, and the staff added over 700 items to the above total.  Well done, Ray Lewis!!

You may have noticed that one of our portables was recently removed.  Due to accommodation pressures in other areas of the Board, our portable was re-located to another school.  The students really enjoyed watching the trucks come in and remove the portable!  There is still some work to be done (i.e. sodding/paving) which should take place shortly.

Best of luck to Mrs. Forth who begins her maternity leave.  Welcome to Mrs. Mulholland will be in for her for the remainder of the school year.

The Ray Lewis School Council held their first meeting of the year.  Council will meet on Tuesdays at 6:00 pm in the library.  We meet once a month.  Please see the School Council page on the school website for information.

Halloween activities will be taking place Tuesday, October 31!  Some important reminders as for parents:  if you are sending in snacks to share, please ensure that they are nut and peanut free.  Additionally, we ask that no make up be sent to school, no toy or replica weapons and no masks.  Students in Grades 6-8 will be holding a Halloween Dance.  Information about the Costume Parade will be sent home by the homeroom teacher.

Everyone is invited to go to the Mohawk Sports Complex re-opening.  There will be a community BBQ and a Ray Lewis exhibit on display!  SATURDAY OCTOBER 21st between 11:00 to 3:00 pm.

Grade 7 Vaccinations will take place on November 1 & 2.  To find out more about Ontario’s School Vaccine Program, click here.

Progress Reports will be sent home on Monday, October 30th.

A reminder of our upcoming PA Day on November 3rd.  The evening of Thursday, November 2 and Friday, November 3 have been set aside for Parent/Teacher Interviews.  More information will be sent home from your child’s teacher.
