Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board takes the issue of mental health with our students very seriously. We recognize that undiagnosed and unsupported mental health issues can be crippling for young people. While we seek to support all students to achieve their full potential, children who live with these issues have a negative affect on their capacity to learn at school, live at home and maintain important relationships.
Mental health issues can be a major challenge for today’s youth to overcome. In some cases, mental health issues can lead to youth violence, risky behaviour and poor school performance.
To deepen our understanding of this issue and to better support our students, HWDSB is holding a Mental Health Series.

Dr. Khrista Boylan, Child Psychiatrist, McMaster Children’s Hospital and The Offord Centre for Child Studies delivered a presentation to a group of HWDSB staff and parents on November 18, 2008 at Waterdown District High School.
