PARKSIDE WINS OFSAA BASKETBALL
Congratulations to Parkside's Senior Boys Basketball team for winning the 2010 gold medal for Ontario AA Boys Basketball. The team overcame late season injuries to play its best basketball of the season at the provincial competition in Windsor. Parkside opened the tournament by defeating Sir Winston Churchill (Thunder Bay) 57-32. In the round of 16, the team overcame a two-point halftime deficit to London Montcalm by holding Montcalm to seven second half points and securing a 59-36 win. Parkside faced St. Basil's from Sault Ste Marie in the quarterfinals, a team that had won over 40 games in the 2009-2010 season. Again, the Panthers used strong half-court defense to make the difference and won the game 53-32. After defeating Timmins by the score of 68-48 in the semis, Parkside played WF Herman from Windsor in the final. Despite an enthusiastic crowd full of the home town Herman fans, Parkside prevailed, winning the OFSAA gold medal game 63-51. The team finished the season with a record of 41-5 and three tournament championships in addition to OFSAA gold. This OFSAA gold medal is Parkside's third provincial championship, our first since 1987.

Parkside at a Glance
Opening in 1960, Parkside High School is located within the town of Dundas. Parkside is one of the smaller secondary schools in the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. The school has a student population of approximately 700 pupils studying in classes from Grade 9 to 12. Our student body is composed of students from urban Dundas and rural Flamborough. There is a principal, one vice-principal, and a teaching staff of 40.
Almost all of Parkside's grade 9 students come to Parkside from two feeder schools - Dundas Central and Spencer Valley School. There are also a few students who enter into Grade 9 from other elementary schools both from within and outside the HWDSB.
Parkside is a high school with a long tradition of excellence in the 3A's: Academics, the Arts and Athletics. Parkside features an outstanding award-winning music program and an award- winning drama program. Parkside has had a noted reputation for producing winning athletic teams especially in basketball. The school, therefore, continues to offer a very wide range of extra-curricular activities for the students. There is a complete program of female and male sports teams; a full music program including wind ensemble, concert and jazz bands and choir; and a drama program which continues to win competitions. Our teaching staff deserve a lot of credit for continuing to organize and run these various activities. |
