Student Services Department
The Student Services Department is the most
diverse department in the school and is the umbrella under
which the following services are delivered:
- Career Education
- Cooperative Education
- Credit Recovery/Alternative Education
- E-learning
- Guidance
- Special Education
- Student Success
Career Education
The guidance and career education program consists of courses
(ex. Career Studies, Learning Strategies) that are intended
to help students develop learning and interpersonal skills
and to enable them to explore careers and the pathways that
lead to them.
Cooperative Education
Co-op integrates classroom course expectations with practical
experience in the workplace. A co-op program is based on an
agreement between the school and a business or community organization.
It involves the participation of the students, teachers, and
the placement supervisors. A co-op program is a credit earning
program.
Credit Recovery/Alternative
Education
Credit Recovery is a program designed to help students who
require individual programming for their personal success.
The goal is to identify the expectations that the student
was unsuccessful in and focus the student’s learning
towards those expectations. This model allows students to
recover credits while still completing their current timetable.
Credit Recovery is often tied with a Learning Skills course.
E-Learning
Online learning is designed to take the learning experience
out of the traditional classroom. It relies on the Internet
for access to learning materials as well as interaction with
instructors and fellow learners. There are scheduled start-
and end-dates, and assignment timelines. However, the times
you choose to log-in are flexible.
Guidance
Guidance counsellors assist all students with any/all aspects
of “student life” and are an advocate for the
students in school planning. Some examples of “student
life” include:
· Personal counselling
· Conflict resolution
· Educational/career counselling
· Post secondary planning/applications
To make an appointment with your guidance counsellor see Ms.
Whiting at the front desk. The guidance office is open for
the students throughout the day.
