Science Department
Welcome to the Science Programme at Parkside!
The overall goal of the science department is for students
to maximize their potential in and appreciation of science.
The approach at Parkside is hands-on with the development
of “wet bench” skills. Our programme is designed
to equip students with the skills and scientific literacy
necessary to become contributing members and lifelong learners
in a diverse community.
What does the Science programme
offer students?
-All grade 9 and 10 courses offer an overview of physical,
biological, and chemical aspects of science.
-Biology courses offer students hands-on opportunities to
gain skills in fruit fly genetics, bacterial culturing, microscopy,
digital image capturing and dissection.
-Chemistry courses help students link practical lab applications
with theoretical problem-solving in the areas of chemical
structure, reactivity, thermodyanmics, and equilibrium.
-Physics courses offer computer acquisition of data, development
of problem-solving skills, and applications of physics principles
in numerous fields.
- Special features of Science at Parkside include a forensics
course and an extracurricular environmental monitoring programme.
In partnership with the community, the
Parkside Science Department recognizes students who have demonstrated
excellence in science at our annual Science Appreciation Lunch.
