Physical Education Department
Athletic Assembly Date: Tuesday June 10, 2008
Physical Education curriculum is based on achieving
fitness through sport and physical activity. Pre and post
tests are done as well as written testing to determine if
each student understands fitness principles, how they are
best attained and whether the student has tried to embrace
the concepts of healthy active living. Healthy active living
includes traditional sports as well as the individual sports
of tennis, racquet ball, badminton and activities such as
aerobics and weight training,
Special courses that are available to students
include personal fitness (female grade 11) and Navy Seals
(male grade 11 and 12). We also offer the Outdoor Education
as a focus course in grade 10 (coed) and in grade 12 offer
Recreation Leadership. These courses promote an interest in
lifelong activities (canoeing, cycling, kayaking, self defense
etc). Finally, we offer a grade 12 Exercise Science course
for those students interested in pursuing post secondary education
in health sciences, kinesiology, physiotherapy, massage therapy
etc.
Students are encouraged to participate
in extracurricular and intramural activities. There is a points
system for participants who accumulate points for the attainment
of a junior, senior or honour athletic letter. This year's
student athletic president, Julie Jarvie will answer any questions
you may have from a student’s perspective.
