Geography Department
Geography at Parkside
The geography department offers a variety of
courses that cover the various geographical disciplines. The
CGC 1D and CGC 1P are required courses for graduation which
predominantly focus on Canada and Canadian issues. Since both
of these are prerequisites for our grade 11 courses, many
students elect to take a grade 11 course in their grade 10
year.
Grade 11
At the grade 11 level we offer CGG 3O Travel
and Tourism every year and CGF 3M Physical Geography in alternate
years. The Travel and Tourism class enjoys learning about
landforms, cultures and attractions around the world. Studying
extreme sport vacations, constructing Caribbean islands, resort
models, sampling culinary cuisine are just some of the things
students can partake in when taking this course. The CGF 3M
class studies natural disasters, 3D images as well as participants
complete stream studies, field work on the Bruce trail and
other experiments both in and out of the classroom.
Grade 12
The geography department offers three courses
at the grade 12 level. CGW 4U Canadian and World Issues, CGR
4M Environment and Resource Management are offered every year
while, CGU 4C World Geography Urban Patterns and Interactions
is offered in alternate years. The CGW 4U course investigates
issues current in the world today such as, social cultural
issues, terrorism, conflicts in the Middle East and the role
technology plays on our ever changing society. In the course
CGR 4M, students conduct experiments, field work, reports
and presentations on issues pertaining to the environment
locally, nationally and internationally. The CGU 4C examines
cities around the world and the social, economic, and physical
factors that shape them.
All geography classes include written, tactile,
and practical applications. The use of GIS computer software
and other technology is practiced.
Explore our world…take geography!
