Grad Council
Grad Council is made of students from the graduating
class. Its mandate is to hold a number of fund raising activities
during the year that may include a grad auction, car washes,
as well as a Christmas fund raiser. For the past five years,
Parkside’s Grad Council has donated monies to St. Matthews
House in Hamilton. St. Matthews House helps families in the
Hamilton Wentworth Region who are in dire straights so that
they may also enjoy the holiday season. In addition, Grad
Council donates all surplus monies to the Graduating class
in the form of bursaries. Each year, every graduating student
is invited to apply for a bursary. Bursaries are awarded strictly
on a financial need basis. Grads have been able to give five
to seven bursaries a year for the last 10 years.
Of course the grand finale for every graduating
class across the province is the final Grad Dance. Grad Council
forms a special committee to ensure that the dance reflects
students’ tastes while conforming to school board and
provincial policies. Year after year, the final dance has
been successful due to students’ hard work and commitment
to making this event a memorable one. Any and all graduating
students are invited to join the Council.
