Sears Festival Club
The Sears Drama Festival is a yearly competition
that showcases talent from all aspects of theatre. The festival
brings together students, teachers, theatre professionals,
and community members to view, discuss and enjoy each other’s
work, under the guidance of experienced adjudicators. The
aim of the festival is to foster understanding, excitement
and improved standards for live theatre in our schools. The
most successful shows receive awards for a variety of categories.
Parkside High School has had a long tradition
of successful productions during each festival year. Students
can participate in the festival in many ways and they do not
have to take drama as a course. Students perform a theatrical
piece that is under an hour in length and pertains to a theme
that is significant to youths. It is a student run production
and rehearsals can start as early as October. The District
Festival dates usually take place in early March, Regional
Festival in April, and a Provincial Showcase at the end of
April.
