Learning Community Sessions

Learning Community Sessions are relatively new for our Board. These five half days represent our commitment to staff development. Learning Community Sessions help to ensure that everyone in our organization is committed and connected to our mission and has the strategies in place to help students achieve their goals.

These scheduled sessions are separate from the Professional Activity Days mandated by the Ministry of Education. The Learning Community Sessions are a vital part of our larger comprehensive Effective Schools initiative, which is the largest staff and student development program our Board has ever undertaken and involves making each one of our schools effective in ensuring the success of all our students.

During Learning Community Sessions, staff is provided with an opportunity to review research, assess their progress on a specific correlate and identify short and long term actions required to improve school effectiveness.

The Board is currently evaluating this approach in terms of teaching instructional practice and student achievement.
