Welcome to Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. With over 50,000 students in over 114 schools, we believe that every one of our students has the ability to reach his or her full potential.
Whether you’re new to Hamilton or new to our Board, you’ll find useful information on everything from transportation, how to enroll your child in school, bell times, and help locating your nearest school included in this section. Our Quick Guide to HWDSB also provides an easy resource for parents full of important information on HWDSB.
Over the past several years, HWDSB has been in an unprecedented period of revitalization. With over millions invested in our school facilities, our schools continue to offer high-quality education to ensure our students have the tools they need to succeed. Our Learning Community Sessions are designed to connect everyone in our organization to our mission and provide the strategies to help our students achieve their goals.
For many parents, child care is an important factor in choosing a school. High quality accessible child care is offered in over 40 schools throughout HWDSB by a number of community partners. All programs are licensed by the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
Keeping students safe is our primary concern, that’s why HWDSB provides a number of supports to promote safety at school, such as the Safe & Caring Schools initiative. With the support and guidance of parents, we can work together to ensure that students are learning in a safe, caring and orderly environment.
Your child’s success in school increases when parents are involved. We know that students do better when parents are actively involved in their education. Involvement in your child’s education could mean volunteering for school council or the Home & School Association. Opportunities are available on HWDSB’s Parental Involvement Committee. There are also tools such as newsletters to help your child by providing tips on homework and future career choices.
Trustees are also available to help guide parents through the education system. The Board of Trustees are officials elected to serve parents, students, taxpayers and the school system. They are the link between communities and the school Board, ensuring Hamilton public schools meet the diverse needs of students in their respective communities. Board meetings and Committee meeting are held throughout the year and are open to the public.
