Description:

Healthy Active Living is a course which focuses on regular active participation in a variety of physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living.  You will learn movement skills and principles, ways to improve your personal fitness level and set goals, as well as techniques to promote personal safety and injury prevention.  You will become familiar with healthy sexuality, mental health and substance use and abuse.  Throughout the course you will work towards informed decisions, resolving conflict and learning to make personal choices.

Description:

This course emphasizes regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promotes lifelong healthy active living. Student learning will include the application of movement principles to refine skills; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness, and health; examination of issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance use and abuse; and the use of informed decision-making conflict resolution, and social skills in making personal choices.

Description:

In these courses students will learn how to develop their fitness levels and be introduced to a variety of fitness activities (pilates, yoga, eccentrics) that can be life long activities to ensure a healthy lifestyle.  Students will be encouraged to progress from a walking to a jogging program which will help to improve their cardiovascular fitness, strength and endurance.  This program can be adapted to various beginner fitness levels. In health students with examine healthy eating choices, healthy sexuality, and how to make informed decisions and conflict resolution skills.

Description:

Description:

This course is an extension of Fitness for Life and Athletic Fitness.   Personal Fitness is a course which focuses on regular participation in a variety of physical fitness activities that promote lifelong healthy active living.  You will learn ways to improve your personal fitness level and set goals.  You will be given opportunities to practice goal-setting, decision-making, coping, social, and interpersonal skills.  Students will learn how to develop weight training programs and how to motivate others to be physically fit.

Course Name: Introductory Kinesiology, University

Description:

This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual’s participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.

Prerequisite: Any Grade 11 U, C or M preparation course in Science, or any Grade 11 or 12 Open course in Health and Physical Education
