Hamilton, ON – January 15/10: Students across Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board will come together to participate in a celebration that pays tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. With a new line-up and a fresh perspective on a traditional format, students will be inspired to promote equality and build character.
Thousands of students will be welcomed into Hamilton Place Theatre for Keeping the Dream Alive – a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK Day). The celebration will showcase student performances in a variety of musical genres, including 10 school choirs, the Flamborough Centre Funk Band, Native drumming from Sir John A. Macdonald and the East Hamilton String Ensemble. Other talent scheduled to perform include local Hamiltonian Tom Wilson and headliner Queen Cee.
“Dr. King’s message of making positive, equitable social change through nonviolent means has inspired generations of school children all around the world,” says John Malloy, Director of Education for Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board. “This celebration will empower students to live their dream and take action against social injustices.”
