Cross Country Results 2023

On Tuesday, our Cross Country Team represented Mary Hopkins at the HWDSB Area Meet at Christie’s Lake Conservation Area.  The sun came out, the rain stayed away and everyone had a great day. We had many first-time participants and we are very proud of all of our competitors who have practiced hard at Running Club over the last month and showed perseverance, sportsmanship and team spirit.  We had a few students who placed in the top 10…which is an amazing accomplishment!

Terry Fox School Run

Dear Parents/Caregivers:

We are excited to announce that our school will be proudly taking part in the 2022 Terry Fox School Run, scheduled to take place during the week of September 26th-30th. Over the next two weeks, students will be learning about Terry’s journey across Canada and his “one step at a time” motto all while challenging themselves to improve their skills and help build school spirit with the “Try Like Terry” motto.

On the days leading up to the event, students can bring in loonies/toonies to be put towards the school’s fundraising goal or if preferred, families can donate online at our School link:

Thank you for helping to support this worthwhile initiative.

Swim Team Try-Outs Tomorrow!

A reminder to those students who have handed in their permission forms…our first try-out is tomorrow! Please meet at the YMCA ready to swim by 7:55 a.m. Don’t forget your swimsuit, towel and goggles. See you at the pool 🙂 Parents, please do not drop off your child until Mary Hopkins Staff are present.

Track and Field

Our annual Track and Field school event was another great success.  Our Grade 2-5 students all put forth their best effort in all of their events…and pushed themselves to do their personal best.   A BIG thank-you to all of the volunteers who were able to help us out last minute that day… we could not have run the event without your help!

For those enquiring minds…students in Grades 3-5, who placed 1st or 2nd in their event, will be invited to attend the HWDSB Area Track and Field Event on Thursday June 20th at Mohawk Sports Park in Hamilton.  We will also be making up Relay Teams in each grade…which would be the top 4 finishers in the 80m event.  Our finals for the 80m will be run on Monday or Tuesday of this week.  The Track and Field Team will be put together in the next few days and permission forms for those students attending the Area meet will be sent home later in the week.

Junior Co-Ed Soccer Tournament

Thank-you to all of the students who tried out for our Junior Soccer Team.  Unfortunately, we were not able to take everyone but we appreciate the efforts of all who tried out.  Those students who made the team have brought home the Trip Information and Permission Forms.  Please make sure the Forms (especially the Student Athlete Information Package) is filled out completely and returned to the school ASAP.   Pizza can be pre-ordered at the cost of $1.00/ slice.  Choices are Cheese or Pepperoni.   Final orders are due Wednesday morning.

Swim Team Update

Congratulations to all of the students who tried out for Swim Team.  We are happy to be able to offer all of the students a spot on the team!  Trip Forms for the Area Meet went home today with the students.  Please complete the Parent/Guardian Consent and Student Emergency Medical/Contact Information Forms and return no later than Thursday of this week.    We are looking forward to having the students participate in this event and being able to showcase their talents after weeks of practicing!

As mentioned in the Trip Letter, there is no special parking rates at McMaster for our event.  Please see the attached link for more information on parking at Mac.
