Fire Alarm Evacuation

Dear Parents, Guardians and Caregivers:

This afternoon, the Riverdale Recreation Centre (attached to Lake Avenue), was performing their required fire alarm test. During that time there was an issue which caused the alarms to go off at Lake Avenue.

No fire occurred, however, as per HWDSB’s Fire Safety Plan, we evacuated our school and called 911. Students remained outside for approximately 10 minutes until the Hamilton Fire Department responded and inspected the school.

They quickly gave us the approval to re-enter the school and students returned to class.

I would like to thank staff and students for following our Fire Safety Plan and evacuating the school in a safe and prompt manner.
