Part of this decision included a boundary review between Lake Avenue and Green Acres Schools.

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) French Immersion registration ends on Thursday, November 30, 2017, for parents looking to enrol their child in Grade 1.
HWDSB has introduced a new system-wide application process for entry into French Immersion, which starts in Grade 1. The application is available to all students within Hamilton and offers a guaranteed placement in the program, but not necessarily at their French Immersion in-catchment school.

On October 26, 2017, HWDSB staff held a public consultation meeting to provide community input regarding the recommendations for French Immersion boundaries and school locations for Lower Stoney Creek and East Hamilton.
To support ongoing community input, we are meeting with the Advisory Panel to review data from the public meeting and collaboratively identify key information to help Trustees to make an informed decision on December 18, 2017.

HWDSB will hold a Pathways Information Night to help families and students in grades 7 to 12 learn more about the variety of high school options available and plan their high school years.
Students in grades 9 to 12 can also meet partners who can help them earn Community Involvement Hours.

At HWDSB, we know that parent engagement fosters student success. We want to be as clear as possible about changes to how schools report on learning in Kindergarten.
In the past at HWDSB, family members could attend “observation visits” in Kindergarten. For the 2017-18 school year, we will be using the new, written Kindergarten report provided by the Ministry of Education.

Enjoy some photos from this hands-on learning day for grades 7 and 8 students interested in the arts. At the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts, students worked with professional artists to explore the Hamilton Children’s Charter of Rights using four art forms (dance, drama, music and visual arts). This is part of a series of outings that connect elementary students to schools with Specialist High Skills Majors in Arts and Culture. Elementary schools involved at this session were Lake Avenue, Sir Wilfrid Laurier and W.H. Ballard.

The news of the deadly attack on a mosque in Ste-Foy, Quebec is leaving many of us at Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board saddened and disturbed. As a country, we mourn the tragic loss of life and condemn this deplorable terrorist attack that targeted Muslims, our fellow Canadians, in a peaceful place of worship.
