Fire Alarm Incident Yesterday

Friday, April 20, 2018

As you may know, we had an interesting end to our day yesterday at Lake Avenue Elementary School today. At about 2:45 p.m. our fire alarm sounded, due to smoke in the recreation centre. Hamilton Fire Department responded.

No fire occurred and students remained safe. As per the HWDSB Fire Safety Plan, we evacuated our school and called 911.

The Hamilton Fire Department responded and inspected the school. They quickly gave us the approval to re-enter the school after our dismissal time, around 3:25 p.m. As students were already dismissed, their belongings were available for them to collect this morning.

Watch: Just One Wish Kindness Awards
The third annual Just One Wish Kindness Awards were held on July 1, 2017 in Gage Park during the It's Your Festival celebrations for Canada's 150th birthday. Organizers honoured 151 children (150 for Canada's birthday and one for good luck), age 4 to 18, from across HWDSB for their kindness. These children exemplify what is means to be Canadian and what Canada is all about. Congratulations to all!
