Did you know that by the age of 6 months, the average Canadian baby has consumed the same amount of resources as the average person in the developing world consumes in a lifetime? (Recycling Council of Ontario)
Did you know that in a lifetime, the average North American will throw away 600 times his or her adult weight in garbage? That means that a 68 kg adult will leave a legacy of 40,825 kg of trash. (Natural Resources Canada)
Well, the students and teachers at Greensville School care about their environment and are striving to be intelligent and conscientious consumers so we are out to change these statistics. We know that every effort, no matter how big or small, can help to make a difference. We work very hard to ensure that all recyclable things are recycled to the best of our ability. Our Recycling Club is the best around; we work hard every day to get all the jobs done!
On Mondays and Wednesdays, the paper monitors put on their badges and gloves and visit each classroom to collect paper during second lunch break ... and sometimes even first break too. Empty milk cartons are collected, rinsed and recycled daily. And for the first time, we now have compost monitors who collect compostable materials on second nutrition break to dump into our composter which was donated to us by McNeil Baptist Church in Westdale. Norm Kerr (Ms. Kerr's father) has offered to maintain our composter weekly and help the Garden Club use our compost next year to fertilize our gardens.
Although the HWDSB is able to recycle clean plastic, it is not able to recycle any items that are contaminiated with left-over food (including foil wrappers, yogurt containers, fruit cups, etc). That is why Greensville School is proud to say we are a Boomerang School and we encourage parents to pack waste-free lunches for the students.

As you can see, Greensville knows what it means to be Green.
GO GREEN!
