Addition to Collegiate Avenue – Community Information Night

As part of the Lower Stoney Creek Accommodation Review, the Board of Trustees approved the closure of Collegiate Avenue, Eastdale, Green Acres, Memorial (SC), Mountain View and R.L. Hyslop Schools and the opening of three new JK-8 elementary schools on the Collegiate, Eastdale and Memorial (SC) sites with modified boundaries between these three schools.

To keep families informed through this process, community information nights will be held on a regular basis. The first public meeting reviewing plans for this project will be held on:

Boundary Review Public Meeting for Green Acres and Lake Avenue Families

At the June 6, 2016, Board meeting, Trustees approved the final decision for both the East Hamilton City 2 and Lower Stoney Creek Accommodation Reviews.

Part of this decision included a boundary review between Lake Avenue and Green Acres Schools.

French Immersion Applications Ends Soon

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) French Immersion registration ends on Thursday, November 30, 2017, for parents looking to enrol their child in Grade 1.

HWDSB has introduced a new system-wide application process for entry into French Immersion, which starts in Grade 1. The application is available to all students within Hamilton and offers a guaranteed placement in the program, but not necessarily at their French Immersion in-catchment school.

Pathways Information Open House

HWDSB will hold a Pathways Information Night to help families and students in grades 7 to 12 learn more about the variety of high school options available and plan their high school years.

Students in grades 9 to 12 can also meet partners who can help them earn Community Involvement Hours.

Wednesday, November  1 at LIUNA Station (360 James St. N.). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and you can drop in anytime until 9 p.m.

In the past at HWDSB, family members could attend “observation visits” in Kindergarten. For the 2017-18 school year, we will be using the new, written Kindergarten report provided by the Ministry of Education.

Collegiate Ave. School Renewal

On Monday, June 19, the Minister of Education announced $33.5 million in funding for the construction of two new JK-8 elementary schools and an addition at Collegiate Avenue School.
This announcement affects the school communities of R.L. Hyslop, Green Acres and Collegiate Avenue, as part of the funding received will provide additional classroom and childcare space at Collegiate Avenue.
