Character Builds at George R. Allan

Character Builds and Supporting Student Achievement

There are many ways that character development supports academic achievement. It develops the whole student - the cognitive, affective and behavioural domains, and as an individual learner and engaged citizen.

Character education involves the teaching of children in a manner that will help them develop as personal and social beings. Character Education programming includes social and emotional learning, moral reasoning/cognitive development, life skills education, health education, violence prevention, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and conflict resolution and mediation. This form of education involves teaching children and adolescents’ values including caring, citizenship, empathy, courage, acceptance, honesty, integrity, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness.

Our goal is to assist our students in developing into ethical, morally responsible, community-oriented, self-disciplined adults. The Hamilton Wentworth District School Board's Character Builds initiative helps students become responsible members of society.  The Character Builds program and philosophy is practiced and modeled by the parents, staff, and student of George R. Allan.
