Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test – April 10^th 2018

This year the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) is being written on April 10, 2018.  The test will be written by eligible Grade 10 students and some Previously Eligible Grade 11 and 12 students.  The administration of the test will have an impact on the school. To accommodate those students writing the test, the school will operate on a different schedule on April 10.

Grade 9 Classes

Students in grade 9 classes in the morning will start their day at 8:30 am and attend their classes as usual in the morning. Some Grade 9 classes may be relocated because of the OSSLT.  This will be communicated to students by their subject teachers prior to April 10. Grade 9 classes will run on a shorter schedule in the afternoon following lunch.  There will be an extended common lunch running from 11:10 am – 12:50 pm. Please note that for those grade 9 students who are enrolled in a grade 10 class in the morning, this class will be cancelled and the students can report to the cafeteria.

Students Writing the OSSLT

Test writers will be writing the OSSLT in assigned rooms on the second floor of the school, which will be posted a week prior to the test. It is important that test writers arrive early as the test will start promptly at 8:30.  Writers will complete Booklet 1 from 8:30 am to 10:00 am. Following a 15 minute break, students will return to their assigned classroom and complete Booklet 2.  Most students will complete the OSSLT by 11:55 am.  Writers will have their lunch from 11:55 am – 12:50 pm.

Grade 11 and 12 Classes

Grade 11 and 12 students will be issued Independent Study in the morning. Starting at 8:30 am and running to 11:10 am, Grade 11 and 12 students can quietly work in the school’s cafeteria where assigned teachers will be located to support and supervise.  Grade 11 and 12 students will have their lunch from 11:10 am – 12:50 pm.

All Classes – Afternoon Schedule

All students will commence their afternoon classes at 12:50 pm.  Periods 3 and 4 will be 55 minutes in length with 10 minutes of travel time between classes.

Period 3 – 12:50pm – 1:45pm

Break – 10 Minutes

Period 4 – 1:55pm – 2:50pm
