 East Hamilton / Lower Stoney Creek French Immersion Transition Information Meeting

At the December 18, 2017 Board meeting, Trustees approved that the French Immersion Programs at Glen Echo (Grades 1-5) and Glen Brae (Grades 6-8) be relocated to Parkdale (Grades 1-5) and W.H. Ballard (Grades 6-8) and A.M. Cunningham (Grade 1-5) and the new school on Eastdale (Grades 1-8). This approval also included that Grade 1 French Immersion is to begin at Parkdale and Green Acres (French Immserion Holding School while Eastdale is being constructed) for September 2018 and that staff engage with the affected school communities about transition planning.

On October 26, 2017, HWDSB staff held a public consultation meeting to provide community input regarding the recommendations for French Immersion boundaries and school locations for Lower Stoney Creek and East Hamilton.
To support ongoing community input, we are meeting with the Advisory Panel to review data from the public meeting and collaboratively identify key information to help Trustees to make an informed decision on December 18, 2017.

Pathways Information Open House

HWDSB will hold a Pathways Information Night to help families and students in grades 7 to 12 learn more about the variety of high school options available and plan their high school years.

Students in grades 9 to 12 can also meet partners who can help them earn Community Involvement Hours.

Hamilton-Wentworth Student Transportation Services (HWSTS) has advised Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board (HWCDSB) and Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) that a bus driver shortage may impact local school bus routes. As of Tuesday, Nov. 28 HWSTS estimates that delays could impact 10 routes.

Some of the programs have been cancelled, but for those that are still running, the deadline to register has been extended to midnight on Friday, June 9.

As a country, we mourn the tragic loss of life and condemn this deplorable terrorist attack that targeted Muslims, our fellow Canadians, in a peaceful place of worship.
