As part of the Equity Department, the Assessment Centre provides services to newcomers and their families including English as a Second Language, community links, connections to Continuing Education programs, day school programs and support networks that facilitate their integration into Canadian society.

We offer a range of Academic & Community services..

Adolescent and adult learners are provided services related to academic credit assessment, program registration for Independent Learning Courses and referrals to Continuing Education programs that will support them in achieving their academic and workplace training goals.

Services For Adult & Adolescent Learners

The Assessment Centre offers a flexible range of opportunities in education for adults and adolescents. Our programs and services are designed to help you achieve your academic goals.

Do you need Ontario Secondary School credits? We can help.

  1. (PLAR) Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition
    PLAR is the formal evaluation and credit granting process whereby mature students may obtain credits for prior learning. This includes knowledge and skills that mature students have acquired in both formal and informal ways, outside of secondary school.
  2. Equivalent Standings for Mature Students
    Mature students may be granted Equivalent Standing credits based on maturity, equivalent education and apprenticeship training experience.

Services for Newcomers to Canada

The Assessment Centre offers newcomers to Canada the opportunity to build their English language skills and successfully integrate into their new community.

We offer a wide range of resources including:

  • (ESL) English as a Second Language for elementary and secondary school students
    The ESL program has been designed for students who require assistance in developing communication skills in English. Classes are available at different levels of proficiency from literacy to advanced and focus on the development of listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and writing skills to allow participants to pursue and achieve their educational goals.
