Some Information from Our Students About Our Fundraiser Friday

On Friday, March 10, Dundana School is holding a fundraiser and spirit day, which has been organized by Mrs. Schwendiman’s grade 4/5 class and Mrs. Clarke’s grade 2/3 class.  They researched and planned for this event and would like to share some of the information they learned with you.

What we did:

Mrs. Clarke and Mrs. Schwendiman’s classes are working together to do a fundraiser for cystic fibrosis.  First we got together and then got into partners and researched about cystic fibrosis.  Then we got together for the second time and interviewed students and gathered our information and we will be presenting it to both of our classes with our partners.  Next, Mrs. Schwendiman’s class wrote the information down on a piece of chart paper.  Finally, it will be the big day soon where we will watch a movie, dress up as twins, get popcorn and raise money for cystic fibrosis.

What we learned:

What we learned about CF.  They have to be on a machine for an hour.  We learned that CF is a disease that can clog your throat with mucus so you might have to take medication.  Your doctor may prescribe medicines so you don’t have as much mucus in your throat.  If you can, take a couple of deep breaths so you can clean some mucus out of your throat.  We learned that you can use some breathing techniques that may help with CF.  A student in our school named Sophia has CF and she needs to go on a machine for an hour every day.

An Interview with Sophia (who has CF and fundraises a lot for it):

Q: When did you start fundraising?

A: All my life.

Q: What kinds of fundraisers have you done?

A: Walk, run, princess balls.

Q: What kind of treatments do you have/take?

A: Pills, chest physio to clear chest, take vitamins 2-4 times a day.

Q: Do you get sick often?

A: Not more than anyone else.

Q: Does anyone in your family have CF?

A: No.  You can’t go by anyone with CF because it could get worse.

Q: Do you take vitamins every time you eat?

A: Enzyme pills to help digest food.  I take 2 each nutrition break.  Some foods I can go without like fruit or candy.

Q: When is the walk?

A:  The run is in October, the Princess ball was in January and the walk is the last day of May.

Thank you to our student reporters:  Sophie B., Elizabeth, Marina, Ma’yan, Stephanie and Gabby and to Sophia S for the interview.
