ALPHA Students Experience Nature in Winter at RBG

A group of students new to Canada had a chance to learn about winter, feed chickadees, hike trails, pet a turtle, plan a winter shelter and explore winter habitats during a recent trip to the Royal Botanical Gardens (RBG).

The students were part of HWDSB’s ALPHA program (Accelerated Literacy Program, Hamilton Area). ALPHA is a targeted intervention program for English Language Learners who have recently arrived in Ontario schools with limited prior schooling.

Elementary and secondary school students in the ALPHA program came together from Hess Street, Dr. Davey, Cathy Wever and Sir John A. Macdonald for the field trip. It was great experience for the students, many of whom are from Syria.

Enjoy some photos from the visit.
