SOLAR POWER
By: C.C.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE SUN DOES NOT SHINE?
The amount to which a period of little sunlight will effect a home using solar power varies greatly depending on the physical location of a particular home. The nature of the solar power system being used. If the home uses PV, and solar thermal, and is also connected to the standard electrical grid power. A period of no sunlight will simply mean relaying on grid power. On the other hand, homes that are not connected on the grid power must either be able to rely on other energy producers, such a fuel cell, and a wind turbine as a diesel generator. A supply of electricity stored in batteries or power from a standard utility cannot serve as a backup.
ENVIROMENT
Electricity is a clean and reliable form of energy, which provides many essentials services in every day life. This inevitably on the environment; however, the industry is always looking for ways to limit these impacts.
Limiting the emissions of greenhouses gases in a global objective of the international climate change convention agreed by governments worldwide at Rio in 1992 and Kyoto in 1997. The UK is committed to reducing its greenhouse emissions to 12.5% below their 1990 level by 2010, with an interim target for 2000, despites increased emissions in most other sectors, and they are expected to deliver over half the national target for 2010.
The electricity industry is also substantially reducing its other emissions, such as sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, which contributes to poor air quality acid rain.
The achievements are largely the result of investments in new gas-fired power stations, improvements in the performance of existing fossil fueled plant and of nuclear generation, and the contribution from renewable recourses. The electricity industries active promotion of the efficient end use of energy is also helping towards emission reductions.
1.Would you want solar power?
2.What would the earth be like without
electricity?
3.How much electricity do you use in a day?
4.Do you use solar power?
5.Would you find a way to change electricity if
you could?
6.If you could change electricity how would you
do it, and why?
