Our School

Dalewood Middle School is located in the Ainslie Woods – Westdale area.  It is close to McMaster University, McMaster Hospital, and Westdale Highschool.  The area is well-established and a historic area of Hamilton.

Our School Plan

Curriculum Focus

Teachers and Administrators work closely as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) focused on improving student achievement through instructional practice in all subject areas.
The School Improvement Plan focuses on:

  • Literacy – focus on making connections to the main idea in text
  • Numeracy – use of manipulatives; understanding math language(Determine, Describe, Justify, Explain, Show Your Work) to improve math culture and mindset
  • Assessment – teachers are working toward teacher moderation using achievement charts; assessment is diagnostic, formative and summative with links directly to instruction

Differentiated Instruction classes are offered at Dalewood as part of a system initiative to inservice teachers across the HWDSD.
21st Century Technology to support curriculum expectations through integrated studies.

Environment Focus

  • The goal is to initiate activities that foster integrity and encourage positive character development in our students
