Ward 1 Participatory Budget

Ward 1 staff are excited to let you know that we are now accepting ideas through December 14 on how to spend $1.5 million in infrastructure in Ward 1!  New this year is our first ever themed Participatory Budget (PB)! We are inviting everyone to submit ideas around Environmental Stewardship, categories and criteria can be found below.

Please click here to enter it online or visit one of our Drop Box Locations (Locke Street and Westdale Library, Ryerson and Dalewood Recreation Centres, Union Market at McMaster, Emmerson Barbershop and the Mustard Seed Coop). Idea submission forms are available at all drop box locations.

Idea Open House – Looking for some inspiration? You are invited to an open house on November 28 from 7-9pm at McMaster Innovation Park (MIP) where City Staff from various departments and Partners will be available to discuss ideas and projects with you. Free parking and refreshments!

Environmental Stewardship Categories:

  • Access and Accessibility to Public Space – includes water, sidewalks, parks and trails
  • Park and Trail Enhancements – includes play structures, solar lighting, gardens
  • Public Building Enhancements – includes environmental upgrades to City owned buildings such as libraries and recreation centres
  • Beautification – graffiti (prevention and removal), litter and waste bins
  • Environmental Stewardship – trees, community operated gardens, enhancements to native plantings and animal habitats
  • Other

Idea Criteria:

  • Located within Ward 1 boundaries
  • Public benefit to the Ward
  • On public property
  • Can be completed within 1-2 years
  • Is a physical improvement (infrastructure)
  • Is a one-time investment
