Together, Hundreds of Students Create Positive Change

As part of Education Week, HWDSB students filled Carmen’s banquet centre to celebrate Together We Create Change and share the actions that staff and students are taking to make change within their community from a local and global perspective. Students shared a wide variety of different initiatives that range from environmental literacy and activism (Ontario EcoSchools), Run 4 Change, the 20/20 Challenge, anti-bullying initiatives, International Day of Pink, LGBTQ /Positive Space groups and much more.

The day also supported the Board commitment to the David Suzuki Foundation’s Bluedot campaign with a live waste audit on site, aiming to make Together a litterless event. Students also shared their messages of commitment through other words or images by creating buttons to affix to a large circular design Bluedot hung on the wall. The day also saw student storefronts, speakers corner, a blogging café, spoken word performances, lots of social media and keynote speaker Spencer West from Me to We.

Enjoy some photos from the day below and see the day’s social media stream here.
