Rewired Conference Attracts Hundreds of Keen Educators

rewiredHundreds of educators from HWDSB, other schools boards, the Ministry of Education, TVO and beyond converged Dec. 1 as the Education Centre hosted the third annual Rewired: Rewiring Education conference on learning and technology.

The conference built on the best practices of the Board’s digital learning initiative Transforming Learning Everywhere and examines the use of classroom technologies, including iPads, The Hub, Ministry-licensed software and other Board-provisioned tools – each seminar filling rooms in the Education Centre.

In one session, Anja Kitchen and Carrie Daniels focused on how students can use iMovie and Lego Movie Maker to create multimedia presentations. Carol Broer explored GarageBand to meet Music Expectations, explaining how it can serve as a platform for composition while meeting curriculum expectations for grades 5-8.

Other presenters tackled coding, robotics, helping special education students with Explain Everything, blogging, creating websites, using Google Forms to collect data and assisting students who are learning English or who are on the autism spectrum. The full schedule included many more examples of 21st-century learning.

Director of Education Manny Figueiredo greeted attendees, full of enthusiasm at the potential they are realizing as they dive deep into ways to improve student outcomes and change lives.
