HWDSB Athletics – OFSAA Update: Day 3 (March 9, 2016)

OFSAAA recap of HWDSB/HWIAC teams competing for winter provincial championships at OFSAA. Championships are being held across the province from March 7-9, 2016.

Boys Basketball (AAA): Sir Allan MacNab SS (March 7-9 @ Windsor, Ont.)

Sir Allan MacNab walked away as OFSAA ‘AAA’ boys consolation champions on Wednesday afternoon topping No. 8 seeded St. Anne (Lakeshore, Ont.) 75-68 in Windsor, Ont. Sam Jenkins led the way for the Lions pouring in 18 points to give MacNab their second boys basketball consolation championship title in three seasons (In 2014 MacNab won the boys ‘AAAA’ consolation championship title).

Earlier on Wednesday morning Kevaughn Ellis posted 19 points to lead MacNab into the consolation championship as the Lions defeated Kingston’s Holy Cross 89-64 in the semi-final game.

Overall the Lions finished with a 3-2 tournament record with their only losses coming against the two teams that would play for a bronze medal; Sir John A. Macdonald (Waterloo) and St. Michael’s (Toronto) with Sir John A. MacDonald taking third place.

Girls Volleyball (A): Hamilton DCH (March 7-9 @ Kitchener, Ont.)

Hamilton District Christian ended their OFSAA journey losing in the consolation final to the University of Toronto Schools 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-15) on Wednesday at Rockway Mennonite in Kitchener, Ont..

The Knights were able to qualify for the final by sweeping Perth Collegiate (Perth, Ont.) 3-0 in the semi-final.  Set scores from the semi-final game were 25-22, 26-24 and 25-22 in favour of Hamilton District.
