As winter approaches, we want to remind all HWDSB families about how we make the decision to cancel school and board operations. This is often a difficult call to make, and is made with the safety and security of our students and staff in mind.
At the October 30, 2017, Board meeting, Trustees approved starting a boundary review to align the secondary school boundaries with the already approved elementary boundaries for the 2018/2019 school year.
A Public Meeting is being held for Ancaster High, Dundas Valley Secondary School and associated elementary schools whose students are in English classes, on:

To mark Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, HWDSB is working to make schools safer with its new bullying resource and continuing support for the board-wide use of the innovative anti-bullying TipOff service.
Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) French Immersion registration ends on Thursday, November 30, 2017, for parents looking to enrol their child in Grade 1.
HWDSB has introduced a new system-wide application process for entry into French Immersion, which starts in Grade 1. The application is available to all students within Hamilton and offers a guaranteed placement in the program, but not necessarily at their French Immersion in-catchment school.

Recently, our school underwent water testing for lead, in accordance with the provincial regulations (O.Reg 243/07). As a result of this testing, concerns were identified within the school. Preventative actions have been taken, which includes temporarily removing the drinking water fixture from service.

At HWDSB, we know that parent engagement fosters student success. We want to be as clear as possible about changes to how schools report on learning in Kindergarten.
In the past at HWDSB, family members could attend “observation visits” in Kindergarten. For the 2017-18 school year, we will be using the new, written Kindergarten report provided by the Ministry of Education.
Because every student is unique in their learning, HWDSB staff strive to provide programs that help all students reach their full potential. French Immersion is one such program.
The program is open to all students in Hamilton-Wentworth starting in Grade 1.

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) released the 2016-17 assessment results in the areas of Primary and Junior Reading, Writing and Mathematics, as well as the results of the Grade 9 Mathematics assessment and the Grade 10 Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT).
HWDSB’s French as a Second Language (FASL) Advisory Committee is seeking members to advise Trustees on elementary and secondary French programming as well as Ministry of Education and community learning supports. Applications are due by Monday, September 25, 2017.

On Monday, June 19, 2017, Trustees reviewed the recommended boundaries based on the feedback received from the Advisory Panel and the Boundary Review public meeting and approved boundary changes that may affect your child.
At the May 29, 2017, Board meeting, Trustees approved a recommendation for the Ancaster Accommodation Review to rebuild C.H. Bray and Rousseau Elementary Schools on their existing sites, build an addition at Ancaster Senior Elementary School and close Fessenden and Queen’s Rangers Elementary Schools once the new schools and the addition are constructed.
This approval also requires a boundary review to determine the boundaries of the new schools at the Beverly Community Centre site and C.H. Bray. The schools involved in the boundary review include the new school at Greensville (Greensville and Spencer Valley), the new school at Beverly Community Centre Site (Beverly Central and Dr. John Seaton), Queen’s Rangers, C.H. Bray and Sir William Osler.
Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board has received approval from the Ministry of Education on its 2017-2018 elementary school year calendar.

Due to increased mumps activity in Hamilton and Ontario, City of Hamilton Public Health reminds parents of children attending school to ensure their child’s vaccine records are up to date.
Today, we had a problem with the water supply at Beverly Central. The water pumps were not working, and the school had no water.
Once we became aware that the repairs were going to take the better part of the day, we made a decision for health and safety reasons to have a controlled evacuation and move all the students from Beverly Central to Dr. Seaton Elementary School.
