Bullying Awareness and Prevention

Today marks the last day of Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week but certainly not the end to the work we need to continue to do to eliminate bullying. We are all responsible for how our school and communities look and feel. We need to be aware of what is happening around us, especially how we treat one another, as well as, the impact of our actions. We need to recognize the harmful effects our choices could be having on another. This includes standing by when others are causing harm. By speaking up and taking action, we model positive peer pressure that can help to make it more socially acceptable to be kind to each other rather than to be cruel. By connecting with others in positive ways we show support and model behaviour that demonstrates that we come to a place every day where we look out for one another. Most importantly, it shows we care. Lastly, always remember that we need to report potentially dangerous situations such as; threats or students at risk for self-harm or dangers at home to stay safe and well. This is a responsibility we all share.

Students and staff here continue these discussions and our learning, beyond this designated week for raising awareness, in our efforts to make Balaclava the best place to learn.
