Ancaster claims first at SOSSA golf qualifier

HAMILTON – Ancaster High School was the top team at the Zone 1 SOSSA Qualifier (HWDSB schools) finishing with a low score of 313.  The event was hosted on Tuesday at Copetown Woods Golf Club

In the boy’s competition, Ancaster’s Jamie Zucker shot the low round of 73 to lead Ancaster to a top placing.  He will be joined at SOSSA  by teammates Weston Farnworth, Erick Brankovic, Garnet Delsey and Scott Van Turl all advance to the SOSSA championship.

Dundas Valley finished second with a team score of 333, Clayton Lawlor had the low round for the team at 78, teammates Reid Perusini, Matthew Persadie, Kyle Young and Kevin Rorie all advance.

Westmount finished third with a  team score of 380, Ethan Irvine had the low round for the team at 83, teammates Jack Corr, Tyler Robinson, David Watson and Dylan Wardell all advance.

The top three singles players who are not on advancing team also qualify. Lyall Shaw from Orchard Park shot a 75 (second best score overall), Graham Mercier from Westdale shot and 80, Jacob Knegt from HDCH shot an 80. All three will move onto SOSSA.

On the girls’side, Vanessa Lin from Ancaster shot an 84, while Valeria Giraldo from Saltfleet shot a 107 and both will also move onto SOSSA.
