OFSAA Update (Day 1)

A recap of Day 1 (June 2) of HWDSB/HWIAC teams competing for spring provincial championships at OFSAA. Championships are being held across the province from June 2-4, 2016.

Boys Soccer (AAA): Westdale SS (June 2-4 @ Kingston, Ont.)

Westdale kicked off the first day of OFSAA competition with two tight matches posting a tie and a loss. The Warriors were downed 3-2 by St. Michael Catholic (Bolton, Ont.) in their opening tilt with Eric Dailber and Gregory Gordon notching Westdale’s two goals. In their afternoon match, the Warriors were able to secure a 1-1 tie against All Saints Catholic (Whitby, Ont.). Gordon scored the Warriors lone goal in that game. Westdale continues pool play with two games on Friday. They will face St. Basil (Toronto) at 8:00am and then battle host Regiopolis-Notre Dame (Kingston) at 12:30pm.

Boys Soccer (AA): Glendale SS (June 2-4 @ Kingsville, Ont.)

The Glendale Bears hold a 1-1 record after the first day of play concluded at the boys “AA” soccer championship. Glendale dumped Fort Frances High School 4-1 and tallied a 1-1 tie against Ascension High School (Mississauga, Ont.). The Bears kick off the second day of play by challenging St Andre Bessette (London) at 11:00 am and close pool play versus St. Michael (Kemptville, Ont.) at 3:00pm. Glendale is off to a decent start and are top offensive team in their pool at this point.

Girls Soccer (AAA) : Wesdale SS (June 2-4 @ Niagara Falls, Ont.)

The Westdale Warriors girls soccer team hold a 1-1 record after two games played in Niagara Falls. They opened the event with a 2-0 loss to Humberside CI (Toronto) in their first match of the day. In their second game, the Warriors were able to rebound notching a 2-0 win over St. Anne SS (Windsor, Ont.). On Friday the Warriors battle Bradford DHS (Bradford, Ont.) starting at 9:30am followed by a 12:30pm matchup against Dunbarton HS (Pickering, Ont.).

Girls Soccer (A): Hamilton District Christian High (June 2-4 @ North Bay, Ont)

Hamilton District Christian High hold an impressive 2-0 record giving up just a single goal in their opening two games at OFSAA. They bested Toronto District Christian 4-1 and then clobbered Vaughn Road Academy (Toronto) 7-0 to sit with a perfect record and atop the standings in Pool C. On Friday HDCH will play Port Hope High School at 10:00am and Rideau DHS (Elgin, Ont.) at 2:30 pm to wrap pool play.

Boys Rugby (AAA): Saltfleet DHS (June 2-4 @ Markham Ont.)

Saltfleet DHS kicked off their 2016 OFSAA championship run with a 31-17 win over Senator O’Connor College School from Toronto. The Storm are looking to defend last year’s OFSAA title and capture the school’s third title overall. Saltfleet’s titles came in 2005 and last year in 2015. Tomorrow Saltfleet will battle St. John’s College from Brantford, Ont., at 10:30am.

Track & Field: Various Schools (June 2-4 @ Windsor, Ont.)

HWDSB athletes rolled into the North America’s largest track & field meet on Thursday ready to put an exclamation on their season. The opening day was filled with preliminary races while Friday and Saturday will see the final heats race for gold.
