Westmount’s Tom Pain honoured by McMaster University

HAMILTON (April 25, 2016) – McMaster University football program announced on Monday that that Westmount Secondary School’s Tom Pain from is the recipient of the 2016 High School Coaching Achievement Award, presented by T. Litzen Sports Ltd.

For the last 19 years Coach Pain has handled both the junior and senior football teams at the secondary schools where he has worked.  His coaching journey started with two seasons at M.M. Robinson in Burlington, before moving to Hamilton Glendale for 10 years, and finally spending the last seven seasons at Hamilton Westmount.

10691He has guided his teams into their league championship game six times over his tenure.  In addition to his high school coaching, Pain spent six years on the McMaster football staff as a linebacker coach and assistant defensive coordinator.

When informed that his high school coach would be receiving the award, Westmount player and McMaster recruit Wyatt Croucher commented that Pain is a very deserving recipient, “He shows unconditional support, on and off the field, not only as a coach, but as a trainer for many students. I truly believe that I wouldn’t be where I am today without Coach Pain’s support, encouragement and expertise.”

The award will be presented at the annual McMaster Football Gala Dinner on May 3, 2016.

The award also brings with it a $ 1,000 voucher from T. Litzen Sports Ltd. Of Dundas, to be used for the purchase of equipment for the Westmount football program.

Candidates for the award are nominated from the regions of Hamilton, Halton, Niagara, and Haldimand, with selection based on long-term service to high school football, positive impact on players, and commitment to promoting excellence on and off the field.
