HDCH, Westdale crowned city champions in volleyball

HDCH Knights – 2015 Senior Boys Volleyball Champions

HAMILTON (November 13, 2015) – The Hamilton District Christian High Knights captured their first ever Hamilton public secondary school senior boys volleyball championship on Friday knocking off the Waterdown Warriors 3-1. (25-19, 19, 25, 25-23, 25-17) at host Sherwood Secondary School.

After the two teams traded the opening two sets, the Knights edged out a narrow 25-23 victory in the third set which turned out to be the backbreaker for Waterdown.

The fourth set saw the Knights earn the victory with some spirited play while outlasting Waterdown 25-17 to claim their first senior boys’ volleyball title as a guest member in the public school board league.

Both HDCH and Waterdown will advance to contend at SOSSA which is held next week.  HDCH will represent Hamilton in the “A” category, while Waterdown will be the representative at the “AAA” level.

Westdale Warriors – 2015 Junior Boys Volleyball Champions

In the junior championship, the Westdale Warriors swept the Ancaster Royals 3-0 to claim their tenth junior boys volleyball title.  Westdale won the match on set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-19.

The win marks Westdale’s first junior boys championship since 1993-94 and it put an exclamation point on a stellar week which saw the school collect three championships over the course of three consecutive days (Senior Football on Wednesday, Senior Girls Basketball on Thursday and Junior Boys Volleyball on Friday).

The 2015-16 boys’ volleyball championship was hosted at Sherwood Secondary School.
