Five HWDSB coaches earn nomination for Wismer Award in coaching excellence

HAMILTON (April 30, 2015) – Five teachers from the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) earned recognition for their work in coaching excellence on Thursday evening as the Wismer Foundation announced its nominees for the 12th annual Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence.

HWDSB nominees included: Andrew Baillie (Ancaster HS), Brian Fuller (Saltfleet DHS), Dave Ormerod (Saltfleet), Liz Piccioni (Ancaster HS) and Dave Walters (Westdale SS)

Other nominees include: Dino Cavarzan (Bishop Tonnos), Mark Kislinsky (St Thomas More), Peter Luvisa (St Thomas More), Anthony Macaluso (Cardinal Newman) and Mike Varasso (St Jean be Brebeuf)

“We’re pleased with the community’s response to the Wismer Foundation initiatives and we are grateful for the support of our many sponsors and friends’’ said Betty Wismer. “This year’s nominees are outstanding individuals and it’ll be a challenge for the committee to narrow the field to five finalists.

A media conference announcing the five finalists will occur next Tuesday, May 5th, 2015 at the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

The 12th Annual Wismer Award for High School Coaching Excellence will be presented to one of the Final Five nominees
at the Wismer Foundation Golf Tournament and Award Presentation Dinner on Tuesday, May 27th at Carlisle Golf and County Club. A few openings remain for both the Golf Tournament and Award Dinner tickets.

The Award was established in memory of John Wismer who was a respected, passionate educator/coach with the Hamilton Wentworth District School Board for thirty three years.
